- NASCAR had two days of testing Tuesday and Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway. As compared to recent tests, it was clean with no on-track incidents.
Speeds will likely be down significantly from last year. The first session saw Wood Brothers Racing's Harrison Burton go fastest at an average of 184.264 mph. The lap was a mere one-thousandth of a second faster than Team Penske's Austin Cindric. Joey Logano was third fastest, then Corey LaJoie and William Byron.
Session No. 2 on Tuesday saw the draft come into play. Speeds were still down, though. Cindric was fastest with a lap at 190.621 mph, just ahead of Logano. Dale Earnhardt Jr., driving Hendrick Motorsports' No. 5 Chevrolet, was third fastest, then Kaulig Racing's Justin Haley and 23XI Racing's Kurt Busch.
Wednesday's on-track action was originally supposed to go all the way to 5 p.m. However, teams chose to end the test 75 minutes early. Here, the two-car tandems showed significant speed. Burton was quickest with a lap at 195.304 mph, followed by Cindric. Ryan Blaney was third fastest, but a full four mph slower than Cindric. Petty GMS
Racing's Ty Dillon was fourth, followed by Earnhardt Jr.
- Saturday night saw Kawasaki's Jason Anderson overtake teammate Adam Cianciarulo four minutes into the 450cc Main Saturday night at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, Calif. From there, Anderson pulled away to take his first win of 2022 and his first on a Kawasaki after moving over from Husqvarna.
Aaron Plessinger finished second, followed by Justin Barcia. Eli Tomac was fourth, while Malcolm Stewart rounded out the top five. Anaheim winner Ken Roczen had problems early and finished 13th. Through two races, Barcia has a three-point lead over Anderson, then Cooper Webb and Plessinger. Roczen dropped back to
fifth.
In 250cc West action, Kawasaki's Jo Shimoda got the holeshot and was running well. Then, his bike briefly stalled. That was all Christian Craig needed to sweep into the lead. From there, he pulled an eight-second lead en route to his second straight win.
Honda's Hunter Lawrence was second, then Seth Hammaker, Michael Mosiman and Nate Thrasher. After his misfires, Shimoda later crashed and ended up seventh. In the points, Craig has an eight-point lead over Lawrence. Hammaker is third in points, then Mosiman and Vince Friese.
