- Team Stange Racing announced
Tuesday that they are launching a driver development program that will bring international racers to the United States that wish to have careers in NASCAR. The first driver that has signed up for the program is Matteo Nannini, second nephew of former Formula 1 driver Alessandro Nannini. He will debut in the ARCA Menards Series at Mid-Ohio in June.
Nannini comes to the program after running full-time last year for HWA Racelab in the FIA Formula 3 Championship. He finished 14th in points with a victory in the second sprint race at the Hungaroring and a third-place finish in the feature race at Barcelona.
Nannini also competed in three of the eight rounds FIA Formula 2 Championship, one for HWA Racelab and two for Campos Racing. His best F2 finish was ninth in the second sprint race in Bahrain. However, points are only awarded down to eighth during sprint races. A 10th-place finish in the Bahrain feature race gave him his only point of the
season.
