- The W Series announced Tuesday that former Olympian and racer Caitlyn Jenner is forming her own race team, Jenner Racing, that will compete full-time in the W Series in 2022. The drivers for the 2022 season have not been announced for any of the teams at this
point.
"As a believer in fair competition, a lover of motor racing, and a supporter of all women in sport from the grassroots to elite level, W Series ticks every box for me and is a fusion of the different aspects of my career," Jenner stated in a press release. "A championship dedicated to
inspiring young girls and giving women the chance to succeed in roles throughout what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry, W Series is changing the face of motorsport. As the series continues its rapid expansion with a truly international cast of drivers and races, this was the perfect time to come on board. W Series had a global reach of more than half a billion viewers in 2021, and I am going out to the market to acquire sponsors that align with mine and W Series’ joint
missions."
Jenner first raced in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at Long Beach in 1979, then parlayed a victory there into a drive in the 24 Hours of Daytona less than a year later. Jenner's best year in racing was 1986, when she drove the full IMSA schedule for Roush Racing in a Ford Mustang. Jenner won the GTO class at Sebring with Scott Pruett and finished second in GTO points. In addition, while racing on a regular basis, Jenner also served as a pit reporter
for NBC Sports on INDYCAR broadcasts.
- Night No. 2 of the DIRTcar Nationals ended up just like the first night, washed out due to persistent heavy rains. These races will not be made up. They will try once again today at 5 p.m. They're not the only ones as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series 46th Annual Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park near Tampa was also scrubbed for the night due to
rain.
