- The DIRTcar Nationals finally got underway Thursday night at Volusia Speedway Park. The conditions were very, very treacherous. Before everything started, the schedule was adjusted so that the entire World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series car was held before the UMP Modifieds went on the track.
In the World of Outlaws feature, Donny Schatz led flag-to-flag to claim the victory. That said, he spent nearly the entire feature battling with Kyle Larson for the lead.
Aaron Reutzel, who was fastest in time trials, finished third. David Gravel was fourth, while Anthony Macri was fifth.
UMP Modifieds did venture onto the track and had hot laps and qualifying Thursday night. However, the track conditions were extremely unsafe. 20 pound chunks of mud flew over the catchfence at one point during the action. Eventually, the plug was pulled on the racing. The scheduled 10 UMP features will be held Saturday starting at
Noon.
- At East Bay Raceway Park, Brandon Sheppard was able to get past Brandon Overton on lap 21. From there, he was able to hold on until a late caution resulted in a Green-White-Checker restart. Coming to the final lap, Sheppard hit the wall exiting turn 4. The car was not damaged too badly, allowing Sheppard to hold on to win for the second straight
night.
Earl Pearson Jr. was second, then Kyle Bronson. Devin Moran was fourth, while Hudson O'Neal was fifth.
- Larry Wight drove up from the fourth starting spot to take the lead early Thursday night at All-Tech Raceway. From there, he held on to win Night No. 2 of the Short Track Super Series Sunshine Swing. Erick Rudolph was second, then Billy Pauch Jr., Danny Johnson and Danny Creeden.
The Sportsman feature was originally won by Brandon Watkins, but he was disqualified in post-race technical inspection due to a helper spring violation. That gave the win to Scott Hitchens. Tom Princiotta was second, then Joe Toth, Tyler Corcoran and Dylan Madsen.
