Around the World in Motorsports: Feb. 14

- Arizona's Ricky Thornton Jr. led flag-to-flag Monday night to win opening night at the DIRTcar Nationals for DIRTcar Late Models. Chris Madden was second, then Devin Moran, Brandon Overton and Dale McDowell.
- Wiliam Byron, in a rare super late model start, took the lead on a lap 72 restart from Gabe Sommers and held on to claim victory in Monday night's Clyde Hart Memorial 100 at New Smyrna Speedway. Sommers was second, then Sammy Smith, Derek Griffith and Justin Mondeik.
- Podium eSports announced Monday that they
broke their own rules in penalizing Lake Peterson for contact at the very end of Sunday's 4th Annual Podium 500 at the virtual Daytona International Speedway. Race winner Lake Peterson was stripped of the victory by officials who felt that he intentionally took out Garrett Manes on the run to the finish. However, no penalty was called at the time as a result of the incident. Therefore, Podium eSports violated their own rules by hearing an
appeal. That appeal put 100% blame for Manes' crash coming to the finish on Peterson. As a result, Peterson has gotten the victory back that was originally stripped from him.
The fallout from this situation has been rather substantial. Three members of Podium eSports' team have resigned from the company since Sunday night. In addition, the build-up to the 500-mile sim race and the race itself was marked by a disconnect between viewers and the moderators in the chat that may hurt viewership for Podium eSports broadcasts going forward.
