- Late Tuesday night, NASCAR announced a rule change for Cup cars that is designed to diminish the amount of skew that was seen during Tuesday's practice sessions. As a result, the garage will open today at 11 a.m. ET (three hours early) to allow teams time to make the necessary changes and get through inspection prior to
qualifying.
- Tuesday night's ARCA Menards Series East Race to Stop Suicide 200 at New Smyrna Speedway was not the most competitive affair. In effect, it was a two-car race between Sammy Smith and Taylor Gray. Smith led 167 of the 200 laps to start off his championship defense in the right way with a victory. Gray was second, then Max Gutierrez, Leland
Honeyman and Donald Theetge. We will have a review of FLORacing's coverage of the event in Thursday's newsletter.
- Tuesday night's action at Volusia Speedway Park was plagued by rain that adjusted the schedule. Once the Super DIRTcar Series feature got underway, it was worth the wait for fans as Stewart Friesen and Peter Britten staged a race-long duel.
Britten started on the pole, but Friesen was able to slip past on the outside on lap 2. Friesen led until a caution flew for Erick Rudolph crashing. Britten was then able to retake the lead on the restart. From then on, the two sniped at each other for the remaining 16 laps, making expressive moves each lap.
The weather again reared its head when Britten hit a massive rut on lap 28, causing his car to perform a spectacular wheelie, a rarity for Big Block Modifieds. That provided Friesen all he needed to get back in the lead and hold on for the win. Britten was second, followed by Max McLaughlin, Jimmy Phelps and Rich Scagliotta.
