Around the World in Motorsports: Sept. 8 |
- NASCAR announced Thursday morning that in-car cameras for the entire field will be available starting this weekend at Kansas for the rest of the season and beyond for free. They will be available as part of NASCAR
Drive at NASCAR.com. The in-car cameras will be supplemented with a plethora of stats, betting odds, leaderboards and more. The
move is something that NASCAR president Steve Phelps had stated could be possible earlier in the year, but there was no date given for when this could happen. Regardless, the effort will be a substantial increase in work for BSI (Broadcast Sports International), the company that has outfitted in-car cameras for broadcasts for many years. Given typical staffing over the years, having 40 cars with in-car cameras would mean BSI has to bring in more than a dozen extra people at minimum
to work the cameras. - Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton will have to start Sunday's Grand Prix of Italy from the rear of the
field after taking an unauthorized engine change ahead of the race weekend. Drivers are only allowed three power units for the whole season and Hamilton is taking his fourth. |

Frontstretch Line of the Week From Scott, Layne Riggs Continuing Family Legacy in NASCAR "That’s actually more hectic than [racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series]. It seems like Layne’s a lot more calm and — I’m not gonna say more focused, but he’s a lot more at ease. I think his late model keeps so much stress on him to not only drive the car but also make the calls and make the
correct calls of what track position and track condition is, and making sure that he makes the right call on any kind of change in practice, it’s going to be the right way to be in the race. Here, he doesn’t have to do that, he can just solely focus on driving the truck." - Scott Riggs, on son Layne "relaxing" in his Truck starts with Halmar
Friesen Racing. |
