Seeking the NASCAR Cup Series Championship: Christopher Bell Wins Round of 16; Chase Elliott In Lead For Start Of Round of 12 by Phil Allaway
Christopher Bell scored a race-high 19 stage points for the second straight week, led 134 laps and finished fourth. That was enough for him to
easily win the Round of 16. His margin was 22 points over William Byron, who finished third Saturday night. Denny Hamlin recovered from a tire issue and a loose wheel on his final pit stop to finish ninth and keep third in the standings. Chase Elliott finished second and moved up three places to fourth. Kyle Larson finished fifth and moved up three places to fifth. Ross Chastain finished sixth and also moved up three places to
sixth. Joey Logano suffered a suspension failure late in the race and ended up finishing 27th. That dropped him three places to seventh. Alex Bowman was eliminated in the big crash on the backstretch. The 32nd-place dropped him two positions to eighth. Ryan
Blaney had a suspension failure of his own and spent a bunch of time behind the wall. He ultimately came out and finished 162 laps down in 30th. That dropped him four places to ninth. Chase Briscoe finished 14th, a good enough performance to move him up five places to 10th and lock into the Round of 12. Daniel Suarez spun on the backstretch to trigger the Big One on lap 277. He recovered to finish 19th despite an acute
bouncing issue. That dropped him to 11th. Austin Cindric finished 20th and held onto the last spot in the Round of 12. Cindric ended up two points ahead of both Tyler Reddick and Kyle Busch. Reddick got caught up in the Big One and crawled to the finish
in 25th, 31 laps down. Busch blew his engine right before the Big One and ended up 34th. Austin Dillon was also eliminated in the Big One and dropped down to 15th in points. Kevin Harvick finished 10th Saturday night, but couldn't overcome the two previous DNFs to get out of 16th. Outside of the playoffs,
Martin Truex Jr. was one of a number of drivers to suffer a power steering seal failure. He dropped out early and finished 36th. He still has a 203-point lead over Erik Jones, who had tire issues and finished 21st. Bubba Wallace had the same failure that Truex did while running fourth. Seeking the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship: AJ Allmendinger Finishes Regular Season On Top; Noah Gragson Starts Playoffs With Lead by Phil Allaway
AJ Allmendinger had another solid night, finishing sixth and scoring 14 stage points. As a result, Allmendinger's official margin of victory in the regular season was 53 points over Justin Allgaier. Allgaier dominated the race, but got busted for speeding on his final pit stop and finished ninth. Noah Gragson's third straight
victory moved him up to third, while Ty Gibbs crashed out of the race after winning stage one. That dropped him to fourth. Josh Berry finished seventh with a car that really wasn't handling all that well. That said, he was locked into fifth in the regular season standings before the race started (he was nearly a full race behind Gragson and more than
a race and a half ahead of Austin Hill). Speaking of Hill, he finished third to stay in sixth. Brandon Jones is seventh after finishing second, while Sam Mayer recovered from a spin to finish fourth and stay in eighth. Riley Herbst finished fifth and stays in ninth. Daniel Hemric struggled with
power steering issues in 20th, but stays 10th in points. Ryan Sieg moved up to 11th to claim the final playoff spot on points with 10th-place finish. His final margin was five points over Landon Cassill, who suffered a hub failure early in the race and had to go behind the wall. He would eventually finish 112 laps down in 35th. Sheldon
Creed was running up front when contact to the back of Gibbs from Gragson resulted in Creed going into the wall in turn 2. That ended his day and ended his championship chances. He ultimately ended up 40 points behind Sieg in 13th. Anthony Alfredo finished 13th and moved up one place to 14th. Alfredo jumped over Brandon Brown, who crashed out early and finished 38th. Jeremy Clements finished 16th and stays
in 16th after winning his appeal. When the playoffs start Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway, Gragson will have a 13-point lead over Gibbs. Allgaier will be third, then Allmendinger and Berry. The last driver in position to advance to the round of Round of 8 at the moment is Clements, thanks
to his victory at Daytona. That breaks a tie with Mayer. Hemric is three points behind the duo, followed by Herbst and Sieg. Regular Season Point Standings (1-16): 1) AJ Allmendinger 1048, 2) Justin Allgaier -53, 3) Noah Gragson

Seeking the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship: Chandler Smith Snatches Lead After Winning Opening 2 Stages In
Bristol by Phil Allaway
Chandler Smith had likely the best truck Thursday night. However, pit strategy dropped him back to a ninth-place finish. Despite this, Chandler moved up into the points lead. He is three points ahead of Zane Smith, who started from the rear due to a rear end seal failure and
finished second. Stewart Friesen finished seventh and scored 18 stage points. That was enough to move him up to third. Ty Majeski's victory locked him into the Championship 4 and moved him up two places to fourth. John Hunter Nemechek crashed in practice and had to start in the rear. He was able to race up to 12th, but that dropped him to fifth, first driver out of the Championship 4 on points. He is currently nine points behind Friesen. Christian Eckes is up to sixth after finishing eighth, while Grant Enfinger remains in seventh and stood pat points-wise after finishing fourth.
Ben Rhodes finished 18th and dropped down to eighth. Outside of the playoffs, Matt Crafton moved up to ninth with a fifth-place finish, jumping over Carson Hocevar. Of those who were
never in the playoffs, Derek Kraus started from the pole, led 27 laps and finished sixth. He is 22 points ahead of Tyler Ankrum, who finished 11th. Matt DiBenedetto ran very well until he
had to make an unscheduled stop due to a loose wheel. He's still 13th, but lost a lot of points. Tanner Gray is 14th, then Corey Heim and Chase Purdy. Round of 8 Point Standings: 1) Chandler Smith 3076, 2) Zane Smith -3, 3) Stewart Friesen -15, 4) Ty Majeski -23, 5) John Hunter Nemechek -24, 6) Christian Eckes -28, 7) Grant Enfinger

Letter of the Race: Saturday night's Bass Pro Shops Night Race was brought to you by the letter M for Mechanical Failures. In
recent years, teams going behind the wall with broken parts outside of crashes have become quite rare in the NASCAR Cup Series. Bristol brought a rash of steering issues that affected playoff contenders and non-playoff contenders alike. - Phil Allaway |
Quotes to Remember: Bass Pro Shops Night Race by Phil Allaway
"This has been number one on my list for a really long time. I actually love this racetrack. It’s my favorite place we come on concrete. It’s just so special to get Fastenal their first points Cup race. After all these years we finally got them into Victory Lane. We’ve got a bunch
of Fastenal folks out here with us, so that’s really special and to get Ford in Victory Lane and spoil the playoffs. Everybody on this team did such a great job, executed all day long and we had a really fast Ford Mustang. A lot of special things came together. I want to give a shout out to Adam Reagan. He’s back at home and just had some knee surgery, so he’s at home recovering. I’m just so excited right now. This is one I’ve had circled for a really long time and if there was gonna be one
this year to get, this is it." - Chris Buescher, race winner "It was long. Obviously, hate to run second and get that close. The top just got so dominant there at the end. I couldn’t really run the bottom and keep
pace. Unfortunately for me, we never really caught much of lap traffic and that was really what I needed. I hate to be so close. This is my favorite race of the year and it would have been nice to check that box. "Proud of our No. 9 Hooters Chevrolet team for fighting through it. We had a poor starting spot and unfortunate
pit selection that kind of handcuffed us all night. We put ourselves in a hole yesterday and was able to get a top-two out of it. We’ll try again next week." - Chase Elliott, finished second "Honestly, with this Next Gen car, the pace is so fast around here and I didn’t really have a
chance to see what was going on around me. I would see guys up in the wall, having flat tire issues or blowing up, so I just tried to avoid it. "Our No. 24 Acronis Chevrolet team did a great job tonight. We were a little bit timid early and didn’t really quite have the car in stage one. We wanted to get those points so we could advance. And then they told
me after stage one that we were locked-in. We were a little bit freer after that. We really didn’t change much, but we got the car better and had a good second and final stage." - William Byron, finished third "I’m proud of the effort from
Trackhouse Racing, the No. 1 Worldwide Express team and Chevrolet to minimize things that take you out of the race. The minimal amount of flat tires.. none for Trackhouse. I don’t know about the other Chevy’s, but just a minimal amount for the bowties. That’s what we need; we needed extra air in the tires and extra clearance off the ground. "We struggled
just being tight all night. We put a couple rounds in the right-rear there at the end and drove up to sixth. We were up there where we needed to be all night." - Ross Chastain, finished sixth "I’m happy to run 500 laps at Bristol anytime I can do that. That’s a good night. I was pretty
happy with our No. 16 Action Industries Camaro ZL1. We just needed a little bit more I think to get to the next level, but really happy when we can run anywhere from about seventh to 10th all night. We had good strategy, and our pitstops were really good. So overall, I’m just really, really happy with the night." - AJ Allmendinger, finished seventh "It just kind of goes with the whole year. Nothing has gone right, really. The wheels literally fell off tonight." - Kevin Harvick, finished 10th "For a while I was just trying as hard as I can and as they fell off
like flies just trying not to force any issues, try not to force any more right-front tire failures. From there, I think I was tied with the 18 for 100 laps, but just one hell of a night. I still don’t think this place loves me back, but it probably showed me a little mercy tonight, so I’ll take it and run with it. We’ll be on offense for the next three races just like we were to start Darlington this round and have some fun with it." - Austin Cindric,
finished 20th "I saw the crash happen. I checked up, but I just got run over. We had two bad races with bad finishes. We had two really good race cars, but we just didn’t capitalize on it and that was enough to miss it.
"It was terrible [to race after the crash]. It’s out of your control; you can’t really fight to do anything about it. Hoping for others’ misfortunes is no way to race." - Tyler Reddick, finished 25th "You never know what can happen and having that flat, there’s nothing that we can do about
it. You’re lucky you have that cushion going into this race. The most unfortunate part is our car was super fast, too. That was the terrible thing about it. The worst part about it now, looking back. The car was really good and just had no indication. It seemed like a lot of guys had right-front problems tonight, but I’m proud of everybody for getting it fixed up and just out there to finish the race. There really wasn’t much we could do, just log laps and let everything play itself out. That’s
why you try to have two good races beforehand because you never know when you’re gonna need some points." - Ryan Blaney, finished 30th "I was just told [that Daniel Suarez] wrecked in front of the field there and got into [Ricky Stenhouse Jr.]. I hate it for the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops / TRACKER Off Road Chevy team. We
got left-front suspension damage and if we don’t get that, we’re out there running and probably in a good points position to make it. "It’s unfortunate, but we put ourselves in a little bit of a bind, points-wise, in the first two races. We were doing our job today though. We had a great race car and got stage points. It’s just unfortunate we were caught
up in it." - Austin Dillon, finished 31st (Crashed out) Phil Allaway is the Frontstretch newsletter manager. He can be reached at phil.allaway@frontstretch.com. Photo is courtesy of Nigel Kinrade
