- Our Motorsports announced Sunday that the team will return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series full-time in 2023. The team will run the No. 02 with David Starr at the wheel part-time. This weekend in Daytona, the team will have FOX News' Special Report with Bret Baier on the car as their primary sponsor. The team indicates that the No. 23 will also be back this year on a part-time
basis.
- Last weekend, the Asian Le Mans Series held their first two of four races at Dubai Autodrome. With the last three automatic entries to the 24 Hours of Le Mans on the line, the action was fast and frenetic.
The start of Race No. 1 on Saturday was delayed for nearly two hours due to a huge crash in qualifying that ripped up an Armco Barrier. Once the race got underway, Algarve Pro Racing's James Allen, fresh off his victory in Daytona, got out of the pits first with 30 minutes to go and held on to win along with teammates John Falb and Kyffin Simpson. They were 9.054 seconds ahead of DKR Engineering's Charlie Eastwood, Ayhuncan
Guven and Salih Yoluc. 99 Racing's Goncalo Gomes, Neel Jani and Nikita Mazepin (in his first major race since the Ukraine invasion) were third, then Nielsen Racing's Ben Hanley, Mathias Beche and Rodrigo Sales. United Autosports' Paul di Resta, Phil Hanson and Jim McGuire were fifth.
In LMP3,
MV2S Racing's Jerome de Sadeleer, Viacheslav Gutak and Fabien Lavergne took the win by 3.825 seconds over Graff Racing's Francois Heriau, Xavier Lloveras and Fabrice Rossello. CD Racing's Nick Adcock, Michael Jensen and Valdemar Eriksen were third.
GT was won by Walkenhorst Motorsport's Nicky
Catsburg, IMSA regular Chandler Hull and Thomas Merrill in their BMW M4 GT3. They were 15.126 seconds ahead of Getspeed's Mercedes for Raffaele Marciello, Fabian Schiller and Florian Scholze. The Haupt Racing Team Merceds of Al Faisal Al Zubair, Martin Konrad and Luca Stolz were third.
- Race No. 2 on Sunday saw Inter Europol Competition come back in style after
a wheel bearing failure Saturday cost them a podium. Nolan Siegel, who was in his first weekend racing an LMP2 car, blitzed the field to take the overall win for himself, Christian Bogle and Charles Crews, an all-American lineup. They won by 17.945 seconds over DKR Engineering. Nielsen Racing was third, then Algarve Pro Racing and COOL Racing's Alexandre Coigny, Malthe Jakobsen and Nicolas Lapierre.
LMP3 was won by DKR Engineering's Duqueine M30-D08-Nissan shared by Tom van Rompuy and Valentino Catalano. They ended up 2.302 seconds ahead of Graff Racing at the finish. MV2S Racing was third.
In GT, Walkenhorst Motorsport put themselves in good position for the automatic bid by sweeping the weekend. They were a full lap ahead of Getspeed at the finish. AF Corse's Ferrari for Stefano Constantini, Simon Mann and Miguel Molina were third.
Points-wise, Algarve Pro Racing leads LMP2 by one point over DKR Engineering's No. 3. Inter Europol COmpetition is tied for third with Nielsen Racing despite failing to finish Saturday thanks to Sunday's win and pole for both races. 99 Racing is fifth.
LMP3 is led by MV2S Racing with 40 points. They have a four-point
advantage over Graff Racing's No. 8, then DKR Engineering's No. 5. The GT class sees Walkenhorst Motorsport with a 16-point lead over Getspeed thanks to a perfect weekend. Haupt Racing Team's No. 7 is third.
