- Hendrick
Motorsports wrapped up a 24-hour all out test session for their Garage 56 entry Tuesday at Sebring International Raceway. By all indications, the test was a success for the heavily modified Next Gen car, which has gone on quite the diet for Le Mans.
In Daytona last weekend, a full spec sheet for the car was released alongside the unveiling of the car's paint scheme. That sheet shows that the car will weigh 2960 pounds, down approximately 525 pounds from a regular Next Gen car. That comes despite a much larger fuel cell that will hold 32 gallons. Given that a
gallon is equal to eight pounds, that means that the Le Mans-spec car is more than 600 pounds lighter than the cars you see in Cup since Next Gen cars typically have a fuel capacity of around 19-20 gallons.
