This weekend, NASCAR Goes West as the NASCAR Cup Series will make their only visit of the year to Auto Club Speedway. Coverage of the WISE Power 400 will
start at 2 p.m. Sunday with NASCAR RaceDay on FOX Sports 1. The coverage will then move to FOX at 2:30 p.m. The green flag is scheduled for roughly 3:45; the event can also be heard on your local MRN affiliate or SiriusXM Channel 90. Drivers will compete for 200 laps
(400 miles) en route to the checkered flag.
Records and facts
Last year's WISE Power 400 came down to a late duel. Daniel Suarez was in position to claim his first career victory, but Hendrick Motorsports' Kyle Larson ran him down and took the lead with three laps to go. He
then held on to take the win.
Larson won by .195 seconds over
Austin Dillon. Erik Jones was third, then Suarez and Team Penske's Joey Logano.
Jimmie Johnson is the winningest driver in the history of Auto Club Speedway, claiming six wins on the high speed track. That includes his first Cup victory back in 2002. Among active drivers, Kyle Busch has four wins, including his first Cup victory back in 2005. Larson has two victories, while four other drivers in Sunday's race have a victory each.

Say What?
"I enjoy the West Coast swing, and can’t wait to kick it off at Auto Club Speedway. It gives us the chance to see where we’re at compared to the competition because the tracks are so different. We get three completely different tracks with a big, two-mile oval at Auto Club Speedway, a traditional 1.5-mile speedway at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and a short track at Phoenix Raceway. Because the tracks are so
different, the West Coast swing gives us a chance to really evaluate our overall program and see how we compare to the competition. Last year at Auto Club Speedway, we finished second in the Dow Coatings Chevrolet, and my teammate also had a strong run and led a lot of laps. I’m hoping we can add one spot to that on Sunday and get the trophy. Auto Club Speedway is a fun place to race. There’s a lot you can do with that track with the multiple lanes you can race. Kyle Busch is good there and he
will bring something to the table this weekend to help RCR as a whole." - Austin Dillon
"[It is bittersweet]. I love the racetrack, it’s one of my favorites and I’m not one to pick favorites. It will be a bit bittersweet going out there for the last time with the 2-mile oval. I’m going to miss it and hopefully we have a good last showing out there, it’s been good for us. All I’m going to do is go out there [and]
think about how we can win and have a great weekend with our Reser’s Fine Foods Toyota. Reser’s is the sponsor of our team and of good times, so I can’t think of a better time than winning, and that’s what we will work toward this weekend.
"For starters, you want to be able to race in between the seams. If you don’t hit that right, you lose a ton of grip and a ton of traction. If you don’t hit that right, it can really change how your car drives.
Between the bumps and the tire wear, there are a lot of challenges. You start the run, you feel like superman and you have a ton of grip and the car is really hooked up into the track. After 10 laps, then 15 laps, then 20 laps, it just gets worse and worse and you are sliding around a lot and wearing the tires out. There’s a real balance there of having a car that well balanced but you have to make sure the car can take off on short runs and restarts, but also in the long run with the tires
because the thing is sliding all over the place and running against the wall and moving lanes around. It’s just a fun track to be able to do that." - Martin Truex Jr.
"I love Auto Club Speedway. I’ve
known it as California Speedway for a long, long time since I was a kid. I obviously love the layout. I like the two-mile oval. I think it’s unique, I think it’s special. We only have two of those on the calendar already so it’s not that it’s that big of a deal that we have two that we’re getting rid of it for another short track on the west coast. If we want to race in California more there’s Irwindale Speedway right down the street that’s a fantastic half-mile racetrack that’s a great short
track. I would certainly love to win the last one on the big track. That would be awesome. I was the last one to win on the Bristol surface before they redid it in 2008.
"I think Auto Club Speedway has been a really good track for me over the years just because I like the track. I like going out there, I like the west coast, it’s a fun track. It’s a driver’s track. You can really move around. There’s five lanes and you can run all of ‘em but one of my favorite lines to run is obviously up against
the wall, that fifth lane. It’s a really cool track to be able to do that and you’re always trying to set yourself as fast as you can right up against the wall as close as you can and that’s where you get to make your most time. It’s really a fun track for the drivers." - Kyle Busch
"I think it’s going to be bittersweet for all the drivers because it’s just so fun from a
driver’s standpoint. It’s so slick and worn out. It’s rough and you just bounce around. You can run wherever on the racetrack, especially with the Next Gen car. I thought that it was just a really good racetrack for these cars, so I’m bummed we didn’t get more time to race it as is. It’s one of my favorite tracks to go to just because I feel like that’s one of the tracks where a driver can make quite a bit of a difference, so I’ll be sad to see it go. But, if it becomes a short track, that may
not be so bad. We don’t have a short track out West, so that would give us some variety during the West Coast swing." - Chase Briscoe
