16 Hypercars are scheduled to be on the grid. 12 of those teams have premium WEC licenses. Three of the additional
entries come from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Action Express Racing received IMSA's at-large automatic invite to Le Mans with their Cadillac and will have their IMSA endurance driver lineup (Jack Aitken, Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims). They'll be joined by Chip Ganassi Racing with a second Cadillac and Porsche Penske Motorsport. The remaining extra entry is a second car for Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus.
LMP2 has 24 entries, 16 regular ones and eight Pro-Am teams. 11 are full-time WEC teams. IMSA regular John Farano won his automatic invite to the class last year and is on the list. DKR Engineering won their spot less than two weeks ago. Inter Europol Competition has two cars, as does COOL Racing. Racing Team Turkey, which failed to qualify for the Rolex 24 at Daytona last month, is also on the list.
The Innovative car (Garage 56) entry is officially the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 based on the Next Gen NASCAR Cup Series car that will be shared by Jenson Button, Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockenfeller. It will run the No. 24.
The GTE-Am class has 21 entries, 13 of which are full-time in the WEC. Ryan Hardwick earned an automatic invite and
will race full-time in the European Le Mans Series with Proton Competition with a Porsche. Walkenhorst Motorsport, normally a BMW team, is fielding a Ferrari for IMSA regular Chandler Hull after winning the Asian Le Mans Series GT title. Actor Michael Fassbender, an ELMS regular, is also scheduled to make his Le Mans debut in a Proton Porsche.
There are also 10 teams that are currently on the reserve list. The most notable of this group is the DragonSpeed
No. 81 for Juan Pablo and Sebastian Montoya, currently second on the list. If any one of the 62 entries drop out, the next team on the list will move into the race.
Currently, the top reserve entry is the Spirit of Race No. 555 Ferrari shared by Duncan Cameron, Matt Griffin
and David Perel, a regular team in the ELMS. Risi Competitizone is third with their Ferrari. At the bottom of the list is The Heart of Racing with an Aston Martin.
- The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya announced Monday that they are making a modification to their track for this year's Grand Prix of
Spain. The chicane near the end of the lap will be deleted from the layout. Instead, the original portion of the track will be used. With the change comes a revised track length. The track is now 2.894 miles (4.657 kilometers) in length, 18 meters shorter than last year.
It is currently unclear whether the track change will change the number of laps in June's Grand Prix of Spain.
Formula 1's website has not yet updated the track configuration in the schedule. Regardless, this year will be the first time that Formula 1 cars will race on the original layout in that part of the track since 2006.
