- Lamborghini Squadra Corse announced Thursday morning that former Formula 1 racer Daniil Kyvat has joined the Lamborghini factory squad and will be a part of their LMDh program in 2024. For now, Kvyat
will have a testing role as the manufacturer ramps up their new program.
In 2024, Kvyat will race the currently
unnamed Lamborghini LMDh entry in both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the GTP class and in the FIA World Endurance Championship's Hypercar class. For now, the GTP program is designed to be a Michelin Endurance Cup-only schedule.
Racing-wise, Kyvat is already signed to
race full-time in the WEC's LMP2 class for PREMA Racing alongside Mirko Bortolotti and Doriane Pin. Those plans will not change.
Also notable, the press release
indicates that Kyvat will be racing under an Italian racing license. Kyvat is from Russia and has raced under a Russian license for most of his career. However, last year's invasion of Ukraine by Russia led the FIA to ban the Russian and Belarussian flags from competition. Anyone from those countries had to sign a pledge and agree to race under the neutral FIA flag.
