Records and facts
Last year's Enjoy Illinois 300 presented by TicketSmarter will be remembered best for the spat between Ross Chastain and Denny Hamlin. Contact between the two put Hamlin in the wall and damaged his car to the point where he was no longer competitive.
Hamlin then sought out Chastain for payback, which included running him up the track, nearly putting him in the backstretch grass, and nearly getting him parked for failing to maintain minimum speed. Ultimately,
the payback attempts were not successful.
Kyle Busch was
leading in the race when Kevin Harvick crashed hard in turn 3 to bring out the yellow and extend the race. On the restart, Joey Logano was able to get past Busch for the lead and held on to win the first Cup race on the 1.25-mile oval. Kyle Busch was second, then Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney and Aric Almirola.
