Motorsports announced Monday that they will switch from the Porsche 911 GT3 R to the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO for the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The team is part of an automotive business that runs a McLaren dealership in Canada.
The move comes after the new 992-based 911 GT3 R has struggled
mightily in 2023. The car started the season so far down on power that it was rendered uncompetitive. That resulted in at least one team that planned to run the full season (MDK Motorsports) cutting their program. Changes to the Balance of Performance have been made since then
In addition, while the team has not raced a McLaren themselves previously, they were helping out
Andrew Wojteczko Autosport (AWA) when they were racing a McLaren 570S GT4 in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. Drivers for the 2024 season were not announced.
