- DailySportsCar.com reported Tuesday that Boris Said was at the Algarve International Circuit Tuesday to test Proton Competition's new Ford Mustang GT3 as part of a Goodyear tire test. The sight was unexpected for multiple reasons.
One is due to the fact that Said did the test in a HendrickCars.com fire suit from his failed attempt to make the Drive for the Cure 250k earlier this month in
the NASCAR Xfinity Series. That meant that Said was driving a Ford while wearing a suit emblazoned with Chevrolet logos. Second is the fact that Said was apparently contacted by none other than Ford Motor Company CEO and occasional sports car racer Jim Farley to do the test.
Said is 61 and his age may play in his favor. As of now, Said does not have an official FIA driver ranking. That is because since 2017, Said
has competed in NASCAR and Trans-Am Series presented by Pirelli's TA class, neither of which require driver rankings. Due to the rules surrounding the rankings, he could be in good position to get a drive in one of Proton Competition's Mustangs in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2024 if he wants it.
The reason for that is rather complicated, but the short version of
it is that once you reach a certain age, your ranking automatically decreases. Since Said is over 60, it is possible that he could get a bronze driver rating and a bronze driver is required in the new LMGT3 class.
