- Red Bull's Max Verstappen showed Wednesday that not a whole lot has changed over the offseason. He was quickest overall with a lap at 132.541 mph. The lap was 1.14 seconds faster than McLaren's Lando Norris. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. was third, then Daniel Riccardo and Pierre Gasly.
Verstappen didn't just have one-lap pace. He also turned in the most laps of any driver on Wednesday, completing 143 laps (480.909 miles) of the 3.363-mile road course.
Williams' Logan Sargeant had some issues during the day. He spun out into the runoff at turn 9, but was able to recover. Later on, Sargeant's Williams had a driveshaft
failure.
18 drivers set times on the first day. Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton will get on track for the first time today.
