Around the World in Motorsports: Feb. 27 |
- The penalties issued Tuesday to Noah Gragson and Ryan Preece will negatively affect both drivers' points positions. Ryan Preece was 24th in the standings after Atlanta. The 35-point penalty removes all of his points and he will start from scratch in 39th this weekend in Las Vegas. Gragson was 27th in points and the penalty put him in the hole in 40th with -6 points.
- Aston Martin officially unveiled the new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 Tuesday. The new car will be offered only as a complete chassis, as opposed to an Evo kit that allows teams to upgrade previous generation cars. The car will be powered by a four-liter V8 engine like the current car. Improvements over the old car are in the areas of cooling, downforce (via a new front splitter and
rear wing) and braking. Like the GT3 version of the car, the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 officially raced in a major championship before the manufacturer could unveil the car. Rebel Rock Racing debuted the new Vantage GT4 in the BMW M Endurance Challenge, the season opener for IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. The car, shared by Andrew Davis (pictured above), Frank DePew and Robin
Liddell, finished ninth overall. Unlike the three new Aston Martin Vantage GT3s that debuted in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Aston Martin and the team chose to mask the new car using the funky livery above. Picture is courtesy of our own Phil Allaway.
