- Action Express Racing announced Monday that 2022 Formula 2 champion and current Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich will join the team for next month's 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside regular IMSA drivers Pipo Derani and Jack Aitken. It will be Drugovich's first career start in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
"I am only 23 years old, and I am having
the most important opportunity in my racing car career until now thanks to Action Express and Cadillac," Drugovich stated. "The 24 Hours of Le Mans is impossible to define in words, such is its magic and importance for cars in general and motor racing in particular. I am having the opportunity to live this 100 years history for the first time with AXR and Cadillac."
Despite winning the Formula 2 championship, Drugovich has really not raced much since. He is at every grand prix weekend and has tested Aston Martin's Formula 1 car. He has still not made his grand prix racing debut. He came close last year when Lance Stroll suffered two broken wrists and a broken toe in a training accident. However, Stroll was able to recover enough to drive in the season opener at Albert Park.
Drugovich has just started his sports car racing career this year with Vector Sport in the European Le Mans Series' LMP2 class. Alongside Ryan Cullen and Stephane Richelmi, Drugovich has finished 10th in class in both races (Barcelona and Paul Ricard) so far this year.
