- Tuesday was the first day of practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indianapolis 500. What was supposed to be seven hours of practice over two sessions ended up being only 26 minutes.
In that 26-minute session Tuesday morning, Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon was fastest with a
lap at 229.107 mph. The lap was .1218 seconds quicker than Marco Andretti. Takuma Sato was third, then Patricio O'Ward and Christian Lundgaard.
Kyle Larson was 27th quickest in the session, but he only got two official laps before the rain. He never got up to speed.
29 of the 34 drivers present turned in laps before the rains came in. Practice No. 2, which was scheduled to run from 1 - 6 p.m. ET, was fully cancelled.
