Records and facts
Last year's Toyota/Save Mart 350k came down to a late caution. Martin Truex Jr. was leading when Denny Hamlin crashed out of the race with 17 laps to go to bring out the second and final yellow of
the race. The leaders pitted and Chase Elliott came out with the lead.
Truex was able to move up from fourth on the restart and take the lead back on lap 97. From there, he was able to hold on to take the win. The margin of victory was 2.979 seconds over Kyle Busch. Joey Logano was third, then Chris Buescher and Elliott
Among active drivers, Truex has the most victories at Sonoma Raceway with four. Kyle Busch has two wins, while Daniel Suarez and Kyle Larson each have one.
All-time, Jeff Gordon is the winningest Cup driver at Sonoma with five wins. He swept the three races run on the 1.949-mile short course (1998-2000), then won two more once the short course was reconfigured into the 1.99-mile configuration in 2001. Truex has four wins, while Tony Stewart has three. Kyle Busch, Ernie Irvan, Rusty Wallace and Ricky Rudd all have two wins at Sonoma. Only Rudd
and Truex have won on both the short course and the long course.

Say What?!
"[Sonoma Raceway] is going to be completely different than what we’ve ever seen there,or at least what I’ve seen there. Going to a place that’s always been really slick, I feel like it [the track] is probably going to have a ton of grip and be a
lot faster with a lot less tire fall off. It’s kind of a different style race. I think qualifying is going to be super important. Hopefully our Ally Racing team can position ourselves to fall on the right side of all that." - Alex Bowman
"Going into Sonoma this year, the repave is
the talk of the town. I know there’s been some tire testing out there and stuff like that. I’ve heard the cars that tested were around three seconds faster than they we’ve been in the past, so that will make it interesting – the tire fall-off and the tire wear and the tire heat and things like that. You really had to manage your stuff for a run in the past. I’m curious to go out and see if the same old bumps around the track are still there or if repave has taken those out. I feel like I’ve
always been decent at Sonoma. We were really quick at COTA and qualified in the top-15, so if we have anything similar to the package we had a COTA, I feel like we will be quite competitive." - Justin Haley
"I think that the track is going to be super fast with the repave and that test was really the first test session I have ever done with NASCAR – definitely the best,
most legit test I have been a part of. I think it was really helpful and I was able to learn from Martin [Truex Jr.] and Ross [Chastain] and watch them and their lines and, in doing so, I was able to give feedback to Rodney [Childers] and the rest of the team to help us get faster and build a better car. I feel like that will help all of SHR when we go back.
"I think a top-15 finish would be a good day just based off of my experience and comfort on a road course. I think the bigger thing for us is if we can unload with a
fast car, go make the most of the practice time to get me comfortable and more confident, and then continue to close the gap from where we unload to where we need to be. If we can qualify better, that sets us up to be closer to the front and go try to contend with the leaders. It’s all about making gains each time we show up and that is our biggest goal." - Josh
