Around the World in Motorsports: April 9 |
- Flying Lizard Motorsports announced Tuesday that they
will make their return to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship during the sprint race in Long Beach. They will field the No. 28 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 for Andy Lee and Elias Sabo, their regular drivers in Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, in the GTD class. Both drivers will be making their IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debuts. For Flying Lizard
Motorsports, Long Beach will mark the team's first start in IMSA competition since 2016. Since then, the team effectively merged with K-PAX Racing and focused on what was previously Pirelli World Challenge GT, first with McLarens, then Bentleys and Lamborghinis. Under the Flying Lizard Motorsports banner, the team also competed in the GTS class (now Pirelli GT4 America SprintX). In
recent years, Flying Lizard Motorsports has primarily stuck to Pirelli GT4 America SprintX with Sabo. Sabo and Lee have been teammates for the past couple of years there, while Sabo has also raced in GT America powered by AWS in an Aston Martin and (on a couple of occasions) an Audi R8 LMS GT2. Lee and Sabo moved up to Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS for this year and just made their debut there last weekend at Sonoma.
