- In Wednesday's INDYCAR Open Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Team Penske's Josef Newgarden was fastest overall with a lap at 228.811 mph. The lap was .4216 seconds faster than Kyle Larson in his Arrow McLaren SP No. 17. Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Scott Dixon and Alex Palou were third and fourth, while Scott McLaughlin was fifth.

The day was plagued by weather issues. There was a delay early in the session due to rain and the test ended earlier due to more rain.

All of the best times came from the first session. The second session only lasted a short time before rain washed it out. In that session, Colton Herta was fastest at 225.907 mph. Dixon was second, then Ed Carpenter, Kyle Kirkwood and Christian Rasmussen. 

"They handled things the right way. But yeah, that was at the beginning of the playoffs that we found out for sure that we’re not gonna have a team next year. So yeah, it’s a distraction for sure. But our guys did great last year and didn’t let the noise affect the trucks we were bringing to the track, didn’t let it affect our performance.

"But yeah, as a driver, it’s obviously stressful. You don’t know when that next opportunity is coming. And, there are a lot of conversations held. A lot of behind-the-scenes conversations that I’m usually not involved in, I was involved in last year." - Grant Enfinger on how he found out about the closure of GMS Racing last season.
