- The National Motorsports Appeals Board mostly upheld the
penalties against Richard Childress Racing and Austin Dillon stemming from the finish of the Cook Out 400 Wednesday. The only change issued is that Dillon's spotter, Brandon Benesch, had his suspension cut from three races to one. As a result, he will be on the roof Saturday night in Daytona as he is considered to have already served his penalty.
The panel of former Red Horse Racing team owner Tom DeLoach, Kelly Housby and Tommy Wheeler issued a statement afterwards. It says, "NASCAR represents elite motorsports and, as such, its drivers are expected to demonstrate exemplary conduct if its series’ championships are to be validated. In this case, the ‘line’ was crossed."
Richard Childress Racing is not happy with the ruling. They have declared their intention to appeal to the Final
Appeals Officer.
- NASCAR announced
Wednesday that NASCAR Cup cars this weekend in Daytona will have to run a mandatory air deflector on the passenger side rear window. This is designed to help keep the cars on the ground in the wake of Corey LaJoie's blowover during Monday's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
