- Toyota announced Tuesday that they are entering the Repco Supercars Championship starting in the 2026 season. They will field the GR Supra in the touring series with Walkinshaw Andretti United serving as the factory outfit. A customer team will be revealed later.
While Toyota has not raced in the Repco Supercars Championship for decades, the brand does have a
history in the series. Back when it was known as the Australian Touring Car Championship and run to FIA Group A rules, Toyotas often raced in the lower subclasses.
The new GR Supra for Supercars will be powered by a racing version of Toyota's 2UR-GSE, a five-liter V8 engine that can be found in high performance vehicles here in the United
States such as the Lexus IS 500. The engine in the Lexus RC F GT3 that Vasser Sullivan races in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is based upon this powerplant.
