Around the World in Motorsports: July 2 |
- Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR), which is wholly owned by IMSA, announced Tuesday that they are creating a new series for historic NASCAR stock cars. The HSR NASCAR Classic presented by Petty's Garage will be a new series that will debut at VIRginia International Raceway in August as part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Michelin GT Challenge at VIR weekend. Previously, historic NASCAR Cup, NASCAR Xfinity and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series vehicles have raced as part of Trans-Am and SVRA vintage weekends. Last year, a fleet of historic vehicles raced on the undercard of the Cup Series at Watkins Glen as the quaternary series on the card. Joe Nemechek won in a truck that both he and his son John Hunter had campaigned in the Truck Series.
