- Audi announced Tuesday morning that Mattia Binotto will serve as chief operating officer and chief technical officer of the revamped Sauber team when the factory operation debuts in Formula 1 in 2026. Binotto will officially join the Sauber team next week on Aug. 1 at their headquarters in Switzerland.
Binotto is best known as the team principal at Scuderia
Ferrari from 2019-2022. During his time in the role, Ferrari won seven races and finished second in the Constructors' Championship twice (2019 and 2022).
- The Super DIRTcar Series started a Canadian swing Monday night at Quebec's Autodrome Drummond. Darren Smith started from pole, but lost his advantage on lap 2 to Justin Stone.
Stone was strong and led 40 laps. Then, he hit the wall on the frontstretch and flattened his right rear tire as the yellow came out for a completely separate incident. Stone's misfortune gave the lead to Michael Parent, a modified and sprint car racer who lives a little more than an hour away in Granby.
Parent was able to lead the final 34 laps to win Night No. 1 of the King of the North. It is the first victory in the series for a Quebecois driver since 2002.
Mat Williamson finished second, then Tim Sears Jr. and Matt Sheppard. Alex Payne was fifth.
Through eight races, Sheppard has a six-point lead over Williamson. Jimmy Phelps is third, then Anthony Perrego and Sears.
