- There could be a manufacturer shakeup in international sports car racing. While there has been no acknowledgement as of yet from Lamborghini, both DailySportsCar.com and RACER are reporting that Lamborghini will not return to the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2025 in either the Hypercar or LMGT3 classes.
Both outlets indicate that there is frustration between the manufacturer and Iron Lynx. In addition, there have been a series of non-committal non-statements about the manufacturer's future in the WEC. Frontstretch can vouch for this
as well. In September, we asked Romain Grosjean about Lamborghini's plans for 2025 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The question was met with hemming and hawing before a no comment.
In addition, the WEC has enacted a new rule that mandates two cars for each team in the Hypercar class for 2025. Lamborghini Iron Lynx ran only one full-time SC63 this year. A second car raced at Le
Mans only.
If this ends up coming to pass, you will see changes in both classes in the WEC, and in the European Le Mans Series. The LMGT3 class currently only allows two cars per manufacturer. Iron Lynx was Lamborghini's representative in the class. If they leave the WEC, Lamborghini would also be ineligible to race in the ELMS' LMGT3 class, since that class only allows manufacturers that are legal to race in the
WEC.
The WEC would likely take applications for a replacement manufacturer in LMGT3 for Lamborghini if they were to leave. Preference would be given to a manufacturer already in the Hypercar class.
