- Red Bull announced Thursday
that Liam Lawson will step up to replace Sergio Perez as Max Verstappen's teammate in 2025. Lawson will replace Sergio Perez, who left the team despite still having two years remaining on his contract (see above).
Lawson first debuted in Formula 1 in place of the injured Daniel Ricciardo at Zandvoort in 2023 after
Ricciardo broke his wrist in a practice crash. Lawson scored a ninth-place finish in Singapore and generally ran well.
When Ricciardo left the team after Singapore this year, Lawson was given the seat at Visa CashApp RB for the remainder of the year. He scored two ninth-place finishes (Circuit of the Americas and Interlagos) alongside Yuki Tsunoda.
- Visa CashApp RB announced Friday that Formula 2 runner-up Isack Hadjar will move up to Formula 1 and partner Yuki Tsunoda with the team in 2025. He will be the 19th Red Bull junior driver to make it to Formula 1.
In 28 races, Hadjar had four victories in 2024 (Albert Park, Imola, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps). All of
these wins were in feature races. He also had five other podium finishes. He was in contention for the championship right up until the final feature race of the year in Abu Dhabi. A 19th-place finish ended any chance of beating Gabriel Bortoleto.
- Via SportsCar365.com, JDC-Miller MotorSports announced Friday that Formula E racer Pascal Wehrlein will drive their Porsche 963 in the Rolex 24 at Daytona next month. The race will serve as Wehrlein's IMSA debut. He will race alongside
full-time driver Tijmen van der Helm and Bryce Aron.
Wehrlein has raced for the last six years in Formula E. He is the defending champion there, having scored three wins (Mexico City, Misano No. 2 and London No. 1) for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. Prior to that, he raced for two years in Formula 1, one year for Manor and one for Sauber. His best career finish
was an eighth at Barcelona in 2017.
- AutoTechnic Racing announced Saturday that they will field a full-time entry in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2025. The team will run the No. 27 BMW M4 GT4 with Austin Krainz and Stevan McAleer. Austin's father, Roland, will join the team for the four-hour races at Daytona and Mid-Ohio.
All three drivers raced last year for Rennsport One. McAleer was full-time in Pilot
Challenge with them alongside Trent Hindman. The duo won two races (CTMP and Road America) and finished second in Grand Sport points. Austin Krainz was the team's third driver for the four-hour races.
Austin and Roland raced full-time in Pirelli GT4 America SprintX. They started the season in the Am class, but moved up to Pro-Am starting at Circuit of the Americas in May.
Before moving up, the duo claimed a class victory in Race No. 1 at Sebring.
The team will also continue racing in Pirelli GT4 America SprintX and IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, where they had full-time entries in 2024.
- Montreal Motorsports Group
announced Friday that they will field one Honda Civic Type-R TCR full-time in Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2025. That car will be shared by Louis-Philippe Montour and Karl Wittmer. Daijiro Yoshihara, who drove the No. 93 full-time in 2024, will return for the four-hour races at Daytona and Mid-Ohio.
