- Era Motorsport announced Monday that Kakunoshin Ohta will join the team in their ORECA 07-Gibson (pictured above) at both Sebring and Road America. He will be driving in place of Ryan Dalziel in both races and team up with David Heinemeier Hansson (Sebring only) and Tobias Lutke (both
races).
Ohta comes to the United States after running full-time last year in the two biggest domestic series in Japan, Super Formula and the Autobacs SuperGT Championship. Ohta won the final two rounds at Suzuka and finished fourth in Super Formula points for Team Dandelion Racing. He was 10th in GT500 points with a best finish of second in the season finale at Suzuka.
Ohta made his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut for Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian in Daytona. He ran well in the race, but a mechanical problem put the No. 93 Acura in the garage. He ended up finishing eighth in GTP, 40 laps down.
The two-race program with Era
Motorsport is in addition to his existing three-race schedule in the No. 93 Acura.
