- Monday night's King of the North event for the Super DIRTcar Series at Autodrome Drummond was marred by the aforementioned scary crash that could have implications on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. On lap 15, Stewart Friesen attempted to sweep to the outside of Steve Bernard for fifth entering turn 3. He then hit the outside wall, which launched his car into a series of flips before being hit by Alex
Yankowski and Justin Stone while on fire before coming to rest.
The race was red-flagged while safety crews tended to Friesen before extricating him from his destroyed Halmar No. 44. According to Halmar Friesen Racing, Friesen was awake, alert and was in communication with the safety crew. At last report, he has been taken to a local hospital in Drummondville.
In the race itself, Matt Sheppard started from pole and led flag-to-flag to take the
victory, his 100th in the Super DIRTcar Series at the track that he won his first race in 2004. Alex Payne was second, then David Hebert, Bernard and Tim Sears Jr.
Despite being involved in the Friesen crash, Yankowski recovered to finish 10th. That was not enough to keep the points lead as Mat Williamson finished sixth. Williamson now has an eight-point lead over Yankowski with
Sheppard in third. Payne is fourth, then Erick Rudolph.
