- The Heart of Racing announced Tuesday that veteran Darren Turner will drive the No. 27 Aston Martin in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Monterey Sportscar Challenge at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. He will drive in place of Tom Gamble.
Laguna Seca is the first conflict weekend of the season between IMSA and the FIA World Endurance Championship. Gamble will be racing the Aston Martin Valkyrie in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on May 10 in direct conflict with the IMSA race.
Turner is already a regular with the team. He races full-time in SRO America's GT World Challenge
America powered by AWS alongside Gray Newell in another Aston Martin.
Turner has eight career WeatherTech starts with a best finish of second at Sebring in 2020. While he has competed intermittently for years, he only ran full-time in an IMSA-sanctioned series once. That was in 2006 for Prodrive when they fielded the Aston Martin DBR9 in the American Le Mans Series' GT1 class. He
scored two victories that year.
