- Today is the opening day of practice for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In the opening practice session, Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA's Sebastien Bourdais, who is from Le Mans, was fastest overall with a lap at 148.582 mph in his Cadillac VSeries.R. The lap was .154 seconds faster than Ferrari AF Corse's Antonio Fuoco. Porsche Penske Motorsport's Kevin Estre was third, then Toyota Gazoo Racing's Brendon
Hartley and Julien Andlauer in the second Porsche.
LMP2 saw RLR MSport's Patrick Pilet back up his pace from Sunday's Test Day to go fastest with a lap at 139.255 mph in his ORECA 07-Gibson. Inter Europol Competition's Nick Yelloly was second, .237 seconds back, then Algarve Pro Racing's Alex Quinn. VDS Panis Racing's Esteban Masson was fourth quickest, then TDS
Racing's Mathias Beche.
In LMP2 Pro-Am, Pilet had the fastest lap there as well. He was .454 seconds faster than Quinn. Beche was third, followed by Proton Competition's Bent Viscaal and United Autosports' Oliver Jarvis.
LMGT3 was topped by Akkodis ASP Team's Jack Hawksworth with a lap at 128.478
mph. Vista AF Corse's Davide Rigon was second quickest, then the Aston Martin of Racing Spirit of Leman's Valentin Hasse-Clot. Ziggo Sport Tempesta's Eddie Cheever III was fourth, while Vista AF Corse's Simon Mann was fifth.
There were two red flags during the session. The more serious of the two came as a result of Stephen Grove crashing his Mercedes at the Dunlop
chicane.
All three classes are extremely close. In the Hypercar class, 1.716 seconds separates the top 15 cars around the 8.467-mile circuit. Both of the factory Peugeots are outside of the top 15.
- Pfaff Motorsports announced Tuesday that Marco Mapelli will miss next weekend's Sahlen's Six Hours at the Glen due to him committing to the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring. Sandy
Mitchell has been tapped to drive the No. 9 Lamborghini in his place alongside Andrea Caldarelli.
- Tuesday night saw the Kubota High Limit Sprint Car Series roll into Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb. for the Eagle Nationals. Some time off for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series meant that some of their regulars entered the fray.
The race saw Buddy Kofoid and Corey Day spend the evening trading barbs at each other. Kofoid was able to hold off all of these moves until Day was sucked into the wall on lap 35 and went for a wild ride that resulted in a red flag. Day was ok after the crash.
From there, Kofoid
was able to hold on to win the Eagle Nationals and claim the winner's check for $55,555. The margin of victory was 1.135 seconds over Anthony Macri. Aaron Reutzel was third, followed by Brad Sweet and Tyler Courtney.
In the points, Sweet continues to lead after 19 races by 10 points over Courtney. Reutzel is third, then Rico Abreu and Brent Marks.
