Seeking the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs: Kevin Harvick Finishes Well, But Loses Chunk of Advantage
by Phil Allaway
Kevin Harvick ran up front for much of Sunday's 318-mile race. An alternate pit strategy meant that he was further down the order
than the drivers he was around for much of the race and ended up finishing fifth. Despite the good finish, he lost a chunk of his lead. His advantage is down to 81 points over race winner Brad Keselowski. Denny Hamlin is up one place to third after leading 92 laps and finishing second. Hamlin jumped over Ryan Blaney, who ended up on an alternate pit strategy and finished 20th.
Chase Elliott is still in fifth after finishing ninth. Joey Logano gained a little on Harvick and stays in sixth after finishing
fourth. Martin Truex Jr. is seventh after a third-place finish while Aric Almirola is still in eighth.
Kurt Busch is up one place to ninth despite a mediocre 17th-place finish. Kyle Busch is down to 10th after crashing out on Lap
16 and finishing 38th. Alex Bowman is 11th after a disappointing 16th-place finish. Clint Bowyer scored nine stage points and stays in 12th after finishing 18th.
Matt DiBenedetto finished sixth, which is enough to hold onto 13th in points. William Byron holds onto 14th and is the last
driver in the playoffs on points. He has a 15-point advantage over 15th-place Tyler Reddick, who finished 10th Sunday. Austin Dillon is back up to 16th after leading three laps and finishing 13th.
Jimmie Johnson is up one place to 17th after finishing 12th. He is currently 25 points out of the playoffs. Erik Jones is
down two places to 18th after finishing in 24th. Cole Custer has sole possession of 19th after finishing in eighth. Michael McDowell is now 20th after finishing in 19th.

Letter of the Race: Sunday's Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was brought to you by the letter B for Back and forth. There were 22 lead changes among seven drivers Sunday, but this effectively a two-man race between
Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin. The two drivers led all but 25 laps Sunday and exchanged the lead between themselves 13 different times. - Phil Allaway

Quotes to Remember: Foxwoods Resort Casino 301
by Phil Allaway
"We’ve had a lot of great races this year with the 2 car, but we just haven’t really went out and kind of dominated a race. Talking to Jeremy Bullins and
like, ‘Man, what do we need to get to that next level? We’re right there. We need to go out and just dominate a race,’ and that’s what today was for us with the Western Star/Alliance Parts Ford Mustang. I’m really proud of my team and the effort that they gave today. A great race car and to all of Team Penske, thank you. Its so great to be racing back in front of fans again. It feels like forever, so welcome back, guys." - Brad Keselowski, race
winner
"We just kind of were second there to the 2 (Brad Keselowski). We could really do well on restarts and we were going back-and-forth. Wow, that was some really, really good short track racing
there. Hopefully the fans liked what they saw there with me and the 2 for most of the day. Some great side-by-side racing. We treated each other fair and it’s good that we got one-two out of it." - Denny Hamlin, finished second
"We ran second in the first stage and had a tire get away on pit road, had to come from the back. That definitely made things a lot more challenging. Had a decent Sport Clips Toyota, just
wasn’t quite driving like we needed it to and then it kind of burned the tires off after 25 or 30 laps. We could hang with them and we would fall consistently off [Brad Keselowski] and [Denny Hamlin]. Third-best car and we finished third so all in all, a good day. Just have to find a little bit more. Just missed the balance a little bit today. Love coming up here to Loudon and this was a fun day." - Martin Truex Jr., finished
third
"For us here at Loudon, for me, personally, this has been a challenging racetrack and to be able to kind of work through it and have a solid run, I feel good about that. We pitted when we
probably shouldn’t have and then we fuel-only’d to get our track position back and then the run went long, so the fuel only made us loose and we had seven or eight laps more on our tires, which ended up costing us there on that long run. We needed a caution. Congratulations to Brad, Team Penske. That’s great. I want to win at my home track, but nice to have a solid run." - Joey Logano, finished fourth
"We had some troubles and had a fast car from the start, we just had to tighten it up some. I was a little frustrated at times just because of how fast of a car we had and we were sort of
stuck back in a little mess, had some big trouble on one pit stop and really set us back, so we were battling to try to get up where we belonged and then once we did we were pretty competitive. I thought we had a car that could have ran in the top two or three until that very last run we just got a little too tight on the last set of tires. We were tight and lost a little speed, so we ended up still having a solid day finishing sixth, which I’m happy about in the sense of our last two weeks were
very rough as far as luck. We’ve had fast race cars, but the takeaway I take from it is we’ve really been in a good groove for the last many weeks I can remember. For the last sevenish weeks we’ve had cars that can run up in the top five and top 10 no problem, so I’m real encouraged about that moving forward. I think we’ll stay in a good rhythm. Other than that, not too crazy of a day. I’m glad we came out with a solid run that the team deserves when we’re obviously fighting for points." -
Matt DiBenedetto, finished sixth
"We were hoping to have a better finish today. I felt like we were making some ground up there late in stage two and at the start of the final stage. Then those guys got ahead of us when we
stayed out and they pitted. That got us back in traffic and our drive off wasn’t good enough to drive back through the field like some of those other guys. Definitely not where we want to be, so we’ll keep working and trying to get it better." - Chase Elliott, finished ninth
"That was a hard fought one for us today. We worked hard throughout the race to get the handling right and in the middle stage of the race we were pretty good. We were able to drive up to
third and I was happy with that. After that though the car just stopped turning and the handling went away towards the end. It was a typical New Hampshire race in the things you fight here handling-wise, which is good and bad, but we’ll take the solid finish and head to the Michigan doubleheader and have two really good races there." - William Byron, finished 11th
"There wasn’t much magic to be found for the Monster Energy team today at the “Magic Mile”. We really struggled with the car being loose on entry all day. The guys made some adjustments to
help out, but we just couldn’t find the handling for the long runs. We are working hard to get better on the short tracks like this." - Kurt Busch, finished 17th
"Just going down the backstretch there and about halfway down the backstretch I felt it go flat and tried to get slowed down enough without taking
everybody else running over me behind me down the straightaway. I don’t know, I think there’s a replay of another Pedigree car here a few years ago that blew a right-front tire for absolutely no reason too. Seems to be our luck with the Pedigree car here at New Hampshire. Sorry to all of our fans and all the Pedigree folks. It’s still 2020." - Kyle Busch, finished 38th (Crashed out)
