Seeking the NASCAR Cup Series Championship: Kevin Harvick Holds Onto Points Lead, Joey Logano Locks Into Championship 4
by Phil Allaway
Kevin Harvick led a race-high 85 laps Sunday, but got beat off of pit road under the final yellow by Joey Logano. Over the final 42 laps, Harvick could not get past the
Shell/Pennzoil Ford. A second-place finish allowed Harvick to increase his led to 21 points over Denny Hamlin. Hamlin won stage two, but hit the wall early in the final stage and had to make an unscheduled stop. He recovered to finish 15th. Brad Keselowski finished fourth and more or less stood pat in the standings. Chase Elliott is the first driver outside of the Championship 4 after finishing sixth.
Logano's victory locks him into the Championship 4, but still did not pull him into the top four. Alex Bowman moved up to sixth after finishing third. He overtook Martin Truex Jr., who flunked inspection twice Sunday morning and
had to start at the rear. He finished ninth. Kurt Busch blew his engine and finished 38th. He's now more than a full race behind Elliott and must win to advance.
Outside of the playoffs, Kyle Busch still leads that group in ninth after finishing fifth. He is eight points ahead of Austin Dillon, who finished 11th. Ryan Blaney finished seventh and remains in 11th. His stage
points allowed him to gain 12 points on Kyle Busch. William Byron is still in 12th.
Aric Almirola jumped over Clint Bowyer into 13th after finishing 13th to Bowyer's 26th. Matt DiBenedetto is still in 15th after finishing 12th, while Cole Custer
is still in 16th.
Among those who were never in the playoff field, Erik Jones still leads that group in 17th despite a 20th-place finish. Jimmie Johnson hit the wall late and finished 30th to remain in 18th. Tyler Reddick had a similar
incident in turn 3 and is still 19th, while Chris Buescher is 20th.

Seeking the Xfinity Series Championship: Chase Briscoe Blitzes Field in Kansas
by Phil Allaway
Chase Briscoe was the best man by far Saturday night. He led 159 of 200 to sweep the stages, earn maximum
points and advance to the Championship 4. That allowed him to substantially expand his lead. He is now 52 points ahead of Justin Allgaier. Allgaier is up one position after finishing 10th. Brandon Jones is up three places to third after finishing ninth. Austin Cindric got into a bumping match with Noah Gragson on lap 15 Saturday and ended up finishing 27 laps down in 28th. As a result, he fell back to fourth, the last man in the
Championship 4 at the moment.
Justin Haley is still in fifth after finishing fourth, but only scoring one stage point. Ross Chastain is up
to sixth after finishing 12th, while Ryan Sieg's third-place finish moved him up to seventh. Gragson failed to beat the crash clock after his aforementioned bashing match and ended up finishing 36th. That dropped him from fourth to eighth. He's 33 points behind Cindric and may need to win to advance.
Outside of the playoffs, Harrison Burton has sole possession of ninth after finishing 11th. Brandon Brown is in 10th, followed by Michael Annett and Riley
Herbst.
Among those who never qualified for the playoffs, Jeremy Clements still leads that group. He's 41 points ahead of Alex Labbe. Daniel Hemric's second-place finish gives sole possession of
15th, but Josh Williams is just four points back after a career-best sixth-place finish.

Seeking the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Championship: Sheldon Creed Holds Onto Lead While Brett Moffitt Finally Reaches Victory Lane, Locks into Championship
4
by Phil Allaway
Sheldon Creed led a race-high 61 laps on Saturday and finished second. That was enough for him to break the
tie with Austin Hill and claim sole possession of the points lead. His advantage is seven points over Hill, who finished third. Zane Smith was in position to potentially win, but contact with Brett Moffitt led to a late spin. He would eventually finish 11th and maintain third. Moffitt held on to take the victory after his contact with Smith. That locked him into the Championship 4 and moved him up to
fourth.
Moffitt passed Grant Enfinger, who is now the first driver out of the Championship 4. He is seven points behind Smith after finishing fourth. Matt Crafton is up one place to sixth after finishing
eighth. Ben Rhodes had a disappointing day and finished 20th. He dropped one place to seventh, but is now 33 points behind Smith. Tyler Ankrum crashed out and is now 56 points behind Smith. He'll likely need to win to advance.
Outside of the playoffs, Christian Eckes finished sixth and maintained ninth in points. He is 38 points ahead of Todd Gilliland. Of those who were never in the playoffs, Derek Kraus still leads
that group by 101 points after finishing ninth. Raphael Lessard crashed out early with Ankrum, but did not lose a spot.
Johnny Sauter finished 18th Saturday, but moved up to 13th. Tanner Gray was eliminated with Lessard and
Ankrum and finished last, which dropped him to 14th. Stewart Friesen skipped Kansas after a schedule change resulted in the race running the same day as the Short Track Super Series Speed Showcase 200 at Port Royal Speedway (Friesen finished second to Mat Williamson). He stayed in 15th. Austin Wayne Self is up to 16th.

Letter of the Race: Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400 was brought to you by the letter D for Dirty Air. All that Joey Logano had
to do to prevent Kevin Harvick from winning was to simply place himself wherever Kevin Harvick was going. The presence of the Shell/Pennzoil Ford in that spot would negatively affect Harvick's car to the point where he couldn't get a proper run on Logano. - Phil Allaway
|
Quotes to Remember: Hollywood Casino 400
by Phil Allaway
"You gotta want it, man. What an amazing team this Shell Pennzoil team is. I am worn out. I spent more time in the mirror than I did in the windshield there. Pit stops got us positions and got us
the lead. The 4 was fast, real fast, especially down the straightaways. I thought if I could hold him off the first 15 laps that I would have a chance. Dirty air was the best for us. As we caught lap traffic I was able to gap ourselves as he got more dirty air and I was able to draft somebody because I was a little slow down the straightaway. Man, I am exhausted after that. We are going to Phoenix and racing for a championship again. Heck yeah!" - Joey Logano, race
winner
"We just needed to get off of pit road first. It came down to controlling that restart and we lost the lead there on the restart and wound up trying to battle and didn’t get the lead on the restart
but just really, really fast Jimmy John’s Ford Mustang. All our guys did a great job and we had a fast car, we moved all over the race track and we weren’t the best behind somebody but I had a lot of options as they made the car better towards the end of the race. It was a good run for us. I wish we could have one, but we were one short." - Kevin Harvick, finished second
"It seemed like we needed a really long run there at the end. We were pretty free all day and snugged it up and snugged it up. We got our Truck Hero Camaro running a little better but didn’t really
have much right rear grip. There at the end, just running wide open and it finally came back to us. I kind of burnt the tires off of it to try to get there in the first place. It is a bummer. I messed up coming to two (laps) to go and cost us any chance that we had. It is still a really good day for us. Thanks to everybody at Hendrick Motorsports. We are building great Camaros, just came up a little short today." - Alex Bowman, finished
third
"Any time you get back in the pack, it’s just so hard to pass and work your way up towards the front. Everybody is so equal and with the dirty air, trying to get through some of that stuff is a
challenge. But any time we got up front it seemed like our car was way different, way better and had a better opportunity to run in the top-three, top-five. Even when we were on old tires earlier in the day, that was probably the best it was and we held onto third, I think, for that run there. I don’t know, just really cool to always have the M&M’s Halloween scheme this time of year. It’s really cool. Hope people go and download the Treat Town app on their device and have a happy Halloween.
I appreciate M&M’s, Toyota, Interstate Batteries, Rheem, Stanley – we’ll be back next week." - Kyle Busch, finished fifth
"It wasn’t a massive deal. The good news was they could hear me, I just couldn’t hear them once we went green. Once we kind of had the situation understood, that they could hear me and I just
couldn’t hear them, that helped, obviously. And then from there, I just kind of knew what to expect. I was just trying to pay attention to lap count and when everybody else was going to start pitting or not. But I don’t think it ultimately hindered our performance at all.
"We had a pretty fast NAPA Camaro. I felt like we fired off well. Lost a little track position there in that middle stage and it was just tough to get a big chunk of it back in a hurry. Had a bad
restart there, fell back too far, and it just took me a long time to kind of claw back up through there. We’ve got two more weeks and we’ll try to go get them in Texas." - Chase Elliott, finished sixth
"It was a good day for us by the end there. We had a couple things happen early on that we had to recover from. We took two tires early and fell back really far in the field and that was tough. We
rebounded from that though and got our car tightened up which we needed. We were just too loose for the majority of the day. By the end our car was really fast and we could have ran around fifth to seventh-place and ended up finishing eighth. That’s a good day for us. We’re putting together solid runs and we just need to keep that going as the year ends." - William Byron, finished eighth
"I think that’s because that’s about all we had. We were eighth in both stages and then ninth at the end. We didn’t really have much more than that. If we could have got some track position at
times, the really long runs we were strong. Just restarts were really tough to fend people off. We just didn’t quite have the short run speed. Missed it a little bit there with it being so cool out today, I guess. Just didn’t have what we hoped to have. Proud of everybody on this 19 team. Thanks to everybody at Bass Pro and Toyota. We’ll do what we do. We’ll just keep fighting. Today is over, it wasn’t a terrible day by any means, but not what we needed to get to the final four. Try to pick it
up for Texas next week and Martinsville should be good too." - Martin Truex Jr., finished ninth
"It was pretty good. I felt like my Germania Insurance Camry was really fast all day. Kind of the worst we were all day was right there in the end. It’s good to be disappointed finishing 10th. I
feel at our best, we were easily a top-five car. Definitely a good day to build on. I feel like the last couple weeks, the road course we were really good, obviously, we were pretty good today, and we have a couple good race tracks for us at the end of the year, hopefully, we can execute and finish with some good runs." - Christopher Bell, finished 10th
"Obviously we damaged the car and at these tracks, you can’t have any damage on the car. I was fortunate to get a couple cautions there to get us back on the lead lap. That was as far as I could go
with the damage that I had. It just hurt the FedEx Camry so bad. To finish 15th with that damage, that was the best we could probably hope for with that damage. Still, definitely had a race-winning car today. Just threw it in the fence." - Denny Hamlin, finished 15th
"Usually there’s no warning. Everything is so buttoned up these days in the engine department. I haven’t seen an engine problem in years. No fault of anybody at Hendrick engines. We’re running hard
here. We were running top-five and there’s a ton of RPM down the front-straightaway with the tail wind. We were right in the mix. We were doing the deal. I just couldn’t quite clear some guys to get into that top-three or four and then our car would come back to us on the long run after about lap 30.
"It’s a shame for everybody at Chip Ganassi Racing. Having an engine failure in the Playoffs – it’s just like a huge parachute that slows you up. We’ll pack that parachute up, throw it away and
we’ll go to Texas to win. We knew we were going to have to win either here or Texas. Martinsville we have a shot at it, too. The odds are stacked against us, but hey, we’re in the top eight for a reason." - Kurt Busch, finished 38th (Blown engine)
