- Ty Majeski ran down Derek Thorn and took the lead with 23 laps to go Sunday. He then held off the pack after the final restart to win the 53rd Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway. Thorn was second, followed by Chase Elliott, who had to charge from the back
after winning Saturday's Last Chance Qualifier. Chandler Smith also came up from the LCQ to finish fourth, while Kaden Honeycutt was fifth.
- Controversy reigned in Saturday night's Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 as Stephen Nasse bumped Bubba Pollard out of the way on the final lap while racing for the win. Pollard ended up spinning out and Nasse crossed the line
first.
Race officials disqualified Nasse for the last-lap spinout, resulting in a substantial amount of anger. It is the second straight year that Nasse has been disqualified from a race during the Snowball Derby weekend. Last year, Nasse won the Snowball Derby on the
track, but was disqualified in post-race inspection.
Jake Johnson, who got in the race through the LCQ and started 31st, inherited the win. Jake Finch was second, then Jarrett Butcher, Derek Thorn and Matt Craig.
- In FIA Formula 2 competition, Carlin Racing's Yuki Tsunoda won Saturday's Feature race by 5.613 seconds over UNI-Virtuosi Racing's Guanyu Zhou. Felipe Drugovich was third, then Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott.
Sunday's Sprint race saw Jehan Daruvala claim the first-ever F2 victory for an Indian driver and a weekend sweep for Carlin. He finished 3.561 seconds ahead of Tsunoda. Dan Ticktum was third, then Zhou and Shwartzman.
With finishes of sixth (with the fastest lap) and 18th, Prema Racing's Mick Schumacher won the FIA Formula 2 Championship by 14 points over Ilott. Tsunoda finished third in points, followed by Shwartzman and Nikita Mazepin.
- DoCoMo Team Dandelion Racing's Naoki Yamamoto, fresh off winning the SuperGT GT500 championship at Fuji Speedway, won Round 5 of Super Formula Saturday at Suzuka Circuit., followed by Kazuki Nakajima, Yuji Kunimoto, Kamui Kobayashi and Nick
Cassidy.
TCS Nakajima Racing's Toshiki Oyu won Round 6, the second half of a doubleheader weekend Sunday in Suzuka. Nirei Fukuzumi was second, then Yuhi Sekiguchi, Sho Tsuboi and Tomoki Nojiri.
With one round remaining Dec. 20 at Fuji Speedway, Yamamoto is tied with Ryo Hirakawa for the points lead. Nojiri is eight points back, followed by Cassidy and Kenta Yamashita. Up to 23 points can be earned in Fuji. The race will be streamed by The Race on
