- Saturday night's World Series of Asphalt action at New Smyrna Speedway was overshadowed by the death of Russell Crews, aka Rusty Crews. Crews was in charge of inspection at the track. He had apparently gone into the scene of a post-race fight in order to break it up. According to the
Volusia County Sheriff's Department, he ended up having a medical episode afterwards. He eventually passed away at the age of 59. We at Frontstretch send our condolences to the Crews family.

out of the main prior to the start due to injuries from two separate crashes, resulting in Mitchell Oldenburg being given his spot despite officials incorrectly not letting him start the Last Chance Qualifier.
Saturday saw Roczen score a dominant win, his fourth in a row over Webb. Marvin Musquin was third, then Malcolm Stewart in a career-best fourth. Adam Cianciarulo was fifth.
In 250cc, Craig came back to claim his second victory of the year in dominant fashion over Shimoda. Nichols won the holeshot, then crashed on the first lap and dropped to the rear of the field. He then charged back up to finish third. Oldenburg was fourth, while Lawrence was
fifth.
