- Monday night's Jeep Beach 175 for ARCA Menards Series East teams came down to late controversy. Sammy Smith, who led at halfway, was penalized for pitting too early during the mid-race red flag...70 laps after the fact during a separate red flag for
rain.
Once the race restarted, Mason Diaz ended up with the lead, but he had contact with Taylor Gray on the restart and spun to bring out another yellow. That left Smith and Gray to duke it out for the win. On the final lap, Smith attempted to use the bump n' run on
Gray. This gave Rette Jones Racing's Max Gutierrez all the room he needed to sneak past both of them on the inside to score his first ARCA Menards Series East victory.
Gutierrez, the defending FedEx Challenge champion in Mexico (the primary support series to the Peak Mexico Series), was a fender ahead of Smith (officially timed at 0.042 seconds). Gray was third, while Diaz recovered for fourth. Joey Iest was
fifth.
