- Monster Energy AMA Supercross teams were back in action Tuesday night at Atlanta Motor Speedway for Round No. 14 of the season. Here, point leader Cooper Webb got the holeshot, but immediately lost the lead to his championship rival Ken Roczen. From there, Roczen ran
off and hid. The Honda rider led the rest of the race to claim the victory.
Chase Sexton finished second for the second race in a row, while Jason Anderson recovered from a scary crash in his heat that forced him into the Last Chance Qualifier to finish third. Justin Barcia was fourth, while Saturday's winner Eli Tomac was
fifth.
Webb ended up sixth, which results in his points lead dropping from 24 to 13 with three races remaining. Tomac is third, then Barcia. Aaron Plessinger, who is 98 points behind Webb in fifth, is the first rider that has been eliminated from championship
contention.
- In the 250cc class, the story of the night was Kawasaki's Cameron McAdoo. On the original start, McAdoo was in the top five when he nose-dived into the face of a tabletop jump and got his legs caught in the pegs. This resulted in his bike smashing him into the ground.
McAdoo needed medical assistance here, forcing AMA officials to put out the red flag during the third lap of the race. AMA rules stipulate a complete restart in this situation. Despite needing assistance to walk, McAdoo was declared fit to continue by the medical
team.
On the complete restart, Yamaha's Justin Cooper was able to dart out into the lead with teammate (and Saturday's winner) Nate Thrasher giving chase. Despite the pain and damage to his bike, McAdoo was still up there in the hunt.
Cooper was able to lead flag-to-flag to take a well-deserved victory (he had been leading in the first attempt to run the race before the red flag wiped that out as well). Hunter Lawrence was second, while McAdoo gritted it out for third. Thrasher was fourth, while
Garrett Marchbanks was fifth.
Cooper's victory expanded his points lead over McAdoo to nine points. Lawrence is third, then Seth Hammaker and Jalek Swoll.
- Tuesday was the second day of the European Le Mans Series Prologue at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona. Teams were treated to two long sessions of activity.
The four-hour morning session saw United Autosports' Phil Hanson go fastest with a lap at 112.064 mph in his ORECA 07-Gibson. That was one-sixth of a second faster than COOL Racing's Nicolas Lapierre. G-Drive Racing's Franco Colapinto was third, then Panis Racing's
Julien Canal and Duqueine Team's Rene Binder.
The afternoon session saw DragonSpeed's Ben Hanley go fastest with a lap at 111.633 mph. This lap was more than a second faster than IDEC Sport's Paul-Loup Chatin. Ultimate's Matthieu Lahaye was third, followed by Panis Racing's Will Stevens and G-Drive
Racing's Pietro Fittipaldi.
The afternoon session wrapped up the ELMS portion of the Prologue. Team WRT's Louis Deletraz was fastest overall with his lap at 112.243 mph Monday night. In the LMP3 class, DKR Engineering's Laurents Hoerr was fastest with a lap at 105.592 mph, set during
Tuesday's morning session. Finally, the fastest lap in the GTE class was set by Porsche factory driver Gianmaria Bruni for Proton Competition with a lap in Tuesday's morning session at 101.047 mph.
The Prologue does continue on Wednesday, but those on-track sessions are reserved for teams competing in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, the ELMS' primary support series.
- NASCAR has fined Whelen Modified Tour regular Dave Sapienza $500 and placed him on probation for the remainder of the 2021 season for his conduct after crashing out of Thursday night's Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 200 at Martinsville Speedway. Sapienza could be seen
angrily gesturing towards Kyle Bonsignore after crashing out early. He also moved towards Bonsignore's car under caution while on foot (looking at the video, it was more like bouncing than anything else) and grabbing himself.
Sapienza is officially suspended until he pays the $500 fine. He's not happy about the situation and spoke to RaceDayCT's Shawn Courchesne about it Tuesday. In a stroke of luck, the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 200 will air today at 5 p.m. on NBCSN, so you can see for yourself.
- Road America announced Tuesday that Kwik Trip, a chain of convenience stores, will serve as the presenting sponsor of the NASCAR Cup Series' first
race at Road America since 1955 in July. The race will be known as the Road America 250 presented by Kwik Trip.
