- Peugeot Sport unveiled their new 9X8, the challenger that they will use in the FIA World Endurance Championship's Hypercar class, on
Tuesday. It is a low-slung prototype that has no rear wing. It is viewed as a direct successor to the Peugeot 905 of the early 1990s and the 908 HDi FAP of the late 2000s and early 2010s.
The lack of a rear wing is described as a "major innovative step" due to a degree of aerodynamic efficiency being achieved that it is not necessary. Peugeot Sport will not say how they've achieved the necessary downforce to eschew the wing, though. The car is scheduled to debut at the beginning of the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship
season.
