- Brian Brown won the second preliminary A-Main for the Knoxville Nationals early Friday morning at Knoxville Speedway. Brown had to hold off Kyle Larson, who came from 21st on the grid in the 25-lap race to finish second. Brent Marks was third, then points leader Brad Sweet and Rico Abreu.
The race was overshadowed by two huge wrecks. On the second attempt to start the race, Parker Price-Miller was launched into a nasty flip into the fence in turn 1 to draw a red flag. Price-Miller walked away from the crash.
On lap 2 of the race, a very scary multi-car crash broke out in turn 3 involving Paul McMahan, Kerry Madsen, Sammny Swindell, Carson Macedo, Marcus Dumesny and Sawyer Phillips. Five of the six cars involved flipped over. McMahan and Macedo
collided and went into the wall, flipping over in the process and blocking the track. In addition, a fire broke out on McMahan's car that was difficult to extinguish due to the nearly full fuel tank.
- The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America announced their Class of 2022 in a press conference at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Friday morning. Headlining that class is four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves. Castroneves will be joined by Banjo Matthews (At Large/business), Jack Roush (stock cars), Denise McCluggage (Media), Dick LaHaie (drag racing), Raymond Parks (historic inductee), Pete Brock (sports cars) and
the duo of Terry Vance and Byron Hines (motorcycles)
The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America Class of 2022 Induction Ceremony is currently scheduled for the weekend of March 7-8, 2022 at the museum in Daytona Beach, Fla. (the museum is housed in the former Daytona USA space just outside of Daytona International Speedway).

This weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series makes their only trip of the year to the state of Indiana. However, this time, the series will be racing on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's infield road course for the first time. Coverage begins Sunday with Countdown to Green at 12:30 p.m. on
NBC. The green flag is scheduled to drop around 1:05 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The race can also be heard on IMS Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel
90).
Records and facts
This year's race will be the first-ever Cup race on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's road course. As a result, there are no prior stats.
Last year's Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 on the oval saw Kevin Harvick lead a race-high 68 laps. However, Denny Hamlin was in position to win the race until he blew his right front tire and pounded the wall in turn 1 on lap
154.
Harvick inherited the lead, then held off the pack on the resulting Green-White-Checker restart to win. Matt Kenseth was second, then Aric Almirola, Brad Keselowski and Cole Custer.

Say What?!
"We lost a ‘major.’ That part of it stinks. I think as a driver, you would not regard the road course win the same as the Brickyard win. But I’m for whatever they want to change to get enthusiasm in that area. Indianapolis has always been one of the highest tune-in markets every week, but we
need to get them to the race track. If they mix it up and more people come and see us race the road course, then that’s OK. I’m good with that." - Denny Hamlin
"I think it’s going to be really interesting. I honestly would compare it to the ROVAL just based on the laps I have run already on the Chevy simulator. I feel like a lot of the corners are low speed but there are also very high-speed braking zones to manage, as well, like the ROVAL. There’s a
lot of tight radius corners, too, but I feel like that’s going to make for good racing. Continuing to prep for this weekend, I’m going to re-watch the Xfinity Series race from there last year and then Saturday’s race, as well. Their cars are pretty similar to us, especially on the road courses with their horsepower and downforce package. They’re a little bit slower than our cars but the characteristics are the same." - William
Byron
"I think track position will be everything for Sunday’s race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. I found that out at Watkins Glen. I’ve always seen it but really didn’t understand the magnitude of it until this past weekend. For example, stack-ups on a restart when you’re farther
back, if someone runs into the back of your car and damages it, the next thing you know you’re flying around trying not to crash other people as well. When you get back there in that mix of guys who stayed out and you’re on tires, it’s chaotic. Having the right track position and having the strategy to not only maintain it, but also advance it, will be a challenge but it’s going to be so important to having a great race." - Tyler
Reddick
"Hopefully we can [win] again. I think we have a little bit of an advantage going in, but once everyone has a chance to get on track for practice, I think that goes away. It’s clear that road courses have been our strength. Watkins Glen isn’t one of my favorites, but even there we were able to
run up front, so I feel pretty good about what we’ve got. I’m glad we’ll get some time on track since I obviously haven’t been on this course in a Cup car, and it’ll be nice to have a chance to qualify for a good starting spot. I think we’ll have a good weekend, but either way it’ll be special to race at Indy with my family and friends there and to kind of see everything come full circle." - Chase
Briscoe
