Seeking the NASCAR Cup Series Championship: Kyle Larson Locks Into Championship 4, Expands Round of 8 Lead
by Phil Allaway
Kyle Larson simply could not be touched much beyond the beginning of stage two Sunday. He took the lead on lap 117 and led the last 218 laps Sunday to earn his eighth victory of the year and secure his place in the Championship 4. Even if he didn't win Sunday, he would have still been in very good position. His lead is now 51 points over
Ryan Blaney, who moved up two places after finishing sixth. Denny Hamlin was involved in two incidents in the last 20 laps, yet still finished 11th. He dropped to third as a result. Kyle Busch struggled with handling issues, but still finished eighth and moved up to fourth.
Kyle Busch is the last driver in the Championship 4 on points at the moment. He is eight points ahead of Chase Elliott, who came from the rear to finish seventh and gained one spot in points. Brad Keselowski gained two places after finishing fourth in one of his strongest races in the playoffs. Martin Truex Jr. crashed late and finished
25th. This finish dropped him from third to seventh. Joey Logano blew his engine on lap 299 and finished 30th. That dropped him to eighth, more than 40 points behind Kyle Busch.
Of those that have been eliminated from the playoffs, Kevin Harvick continues to lead the group after finishing fifth Sunday. His advantage is 50 points over Christopher Bell, who finished third. Kurt Busch is 11th, followed by Tyler Reddick.
William Byron gained some points with his second-place finish, but remains in 13th. Despite getting caught up in the big wreck, Aric Almirola moved up to 14th despite an 18th-place finish. Alex Bowman is down to 15th after being eliminated in the aforementioned crash, while Michael McDowell remains in 16th.
Of those who failed to qualify for the playoffs, Austin Dillon continues to lead by 145 points after finishing 14th. That margin is over Matt DiBenedetto, who moved back up to 18th after finishing 13th. Chris Buescher crashed out in the closing laps, but still finished 21st to drop to 19th. Ross Chastain is still 20th after
getting caught up in the big crash and driving to the finish with a damaged car, finishing 23 laps down in 28th.

Seeking the Xfinity Series Championship: Very Little Point Movement in Texas; AJ Allmendinger Holds Onto Points Lead
by Phil Allaway
There was very little change in the points Saturday in the Xfinity Series. AJ Allmendinger finished sixth at Texas. Austin Cindric finished fifth and won stage one. That allowed Cindric to close Allmendinger's points lead from
six points to four. Justin Allgaier finished fourth and gained three points to move within 26 of Allmendinger. Noah Gragson finished third and gained five points on Allmendinger to stay in fourth.
Gragson is the last driver in the Championship 4 on points at the moment. He is two points ahead of Daniel Hemric, who looked like he could have won Saturday had John Hunter Nemechek not snookered him with his pit strategy. Justin Haley is
six points behind Gragson after finishing seventh. Harrison Burton is in seventh after finishing eighth, while Brandon Jones is eighth. All eight playoff drivers finished in the top 10 Saturday.
Outside of the playoffs, Jeb Burton finished 11th to hold onto the ninth spot in points. His advantage is up to 24 points over Myatt Snider, who finished 21st. Riley Herbst is up to 11th after finishing 12th,
while Jeremy Clements faded with engine issues to finish 29th and drop to 12th.
Of those who failed to qualify for the playoffs, Ty Gibbs still leads the group in 13th despite sitting out Saturday's race. His advantage is nine points over Ryan Sieg, who finished 14th and jumped over Brandon Brown, who
crashed out late. Michael Annett finished ninth and consolidated 16th.

Letter of the Race: Sunday's AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 500 was brought to you by the letter R for Record Low. Once Kyle Larson got himself to the lead, only pit strategy could keep him out of it, even
though he never really got that far ahead of everyone. The race had only eight lead changes, a record low for the NASCAR Cup Series at Texas. - Phil Allaway

Quotes to Remember: AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 500
compiled by Phil Allaway
"Yeah, this is unreal. I knew we had a good shot to win today, and our car was amazing. That’s probably the best 550 package, intermediate car, we’ve had all year. So, thanks to everybody on this No. 5 team, HendrickCars.com, Rick Hendrick, this is so cool; we had a lot of people from HendrickCars here. We get to go race for a championship in a few weeks. This is
crazy." - Kyle Larson, race winner
"It’s all about the push. And I think here at Texas, the shortest lane kind of wins because of the way the track kind of separates into turn 1. Our Axalta Chevy was fast all day. We just never quite got control. I think [Kyle Larson] was definitely better than us in that first
stage. And then I was right there with him the rest of the time and it was just clean air, basically. But congrats to those guys. Kyle really deserves it. They’ve been awesome all year and flawless on pit road; and pit calls and everything. Our team is right there and I think we’re building something really good for years to come." - William Byron, finished second
"Adam [Stevens] did a great job making the right calls – putting tires on at the end really helped us. We kept gaining on this Rheem Camry every pit stop. I felt like we were pretty strong at the beginning of the race and then we kind of lost the handle in the middle stages and fell
back and lost some track position, so fortunate to come home third for sure. I’m really happy for this 20 group. I think we have some strong races coming up." - Christopher Bell, finished third
"Well, we didn’t need all those yellows. We had the car balanced really well with the Discount Tire Ford on the long runs. The last few times we have been here you get 40 or 50 or 100 lap runs at the end but today, geez, we didn’t run more than two laps at a time for the last 45 or 50
laps. That is just not what we needed. We needed the long runs to be able to keep them honest. We had long run speed but the 5 and 24 were just blistering fast on the restart and drove away from me. I just wanted some laps to let their stuff wear down." - Brad Keselowski, finished fourth
"It was a pretty decent day. I didn’t think we had winning speed today. I thought the 5 was pretty incredible and the 24 was fast too. The 2 and me, I thought we were pretty good. Probably the third or fourth place cars. All the late race restarts at the end get so wild and crazy and
you have no idea what is going to happen and who is going to get checked up and stuff like that. Not a bad day. We got good stage points and finished good and we will move on to Kansas." - Ryan Blaney, finished sixth
"I appreciate everybody continuing to fight through that and get our car a lot better. I thought by the end, we were decent. Just by that point, obviously, it was too late. I had another one vibrate again after that, so I’m not really sure what we had going on there. I’m still
currently confused. So, we’ll see. But congrats to Kyle (Larson, race winner). Hopefully we can join those guys in Phoenix and I’m looking forward to these next two weeks. I think we can run good at the next couple and I feel like we’re all super close in points. I don’t know where everybody shakes out." - Chase Elliott, finished seventh
"[Leaving above the cut line is] about the only thing we got out of today. [We were just] off. I don’t know how we missed it, why we missed it, or what but just taking off on fire off, there’s just no grip whatsoever. We would just chatter the front tires, so we missed it today. We
missed it big time. I don’t know what is going on, but that wasn’t the way to perform on the opening day today. Thanks to Interstate Batteries. I appreciate all of their people that were with us today. I just feel bad that we didn’t do a better job. We have to go back to work. Next week is Kansas – same kind of thing." - Kyle Busch, finished eighth
"It was a good day; up and down. I feel like we probably missed it a little bit on the adjustments in the middle of the race. And then right there at the end, during one of the stops when everyone came for tires and I was the first car without tires, I feel like we should have come
for tires. We deserve maybe a little bit better, but we’ll have to keep working." - Daniel Suarez, finished 10th
"I think we went a different direction with our car and we weren’t just as fast as we were in previous mile-and-a-half races. I thought we were kind of a third-to-fourth place car on the long run, seventh-to-eighth on the short run. Just weren’t ourselves today in that case and then
obviously getting in two wrecks at the end didn’t help, but the fact that there was a lot of attrition and the fact that the team did a phenomenal job fixing the car got us back up to P-11." - Denny Hamlin, finished 11th
"I thought it was starting to maybe give up a little bit of power in that run. We were just getting passed. Not really though. It just kind of let go. It is one of those days when nothing went right. The strategy didn’t go the way we wanted it to early in the race. Cautions didn’t
fall the way we hoped they would and every time we started fighting our way back something happened and we ended up like this. Now we know what we have to do these next two weeks. We better go find a way to win." - Joey Logano, finished 30th (Blown engine)
